Sandy Point
Located on the Gippsland coast about 2 hours drive from Melbourne, Sandy
Pt. is a bit of a windsurfing "Mecca". This is where the world
sailing speed record was set by Yellow Pages Endeavour and is the site of
numerous Australian windsurfing speed records. Shallow inlet where the sailing
takes place is a long shallow estuary with a thin sand spit separating it
from the windy waters of Bass Strait. It is an excellent spot for slalom
or speed sailing and a number of these sort of events are run here during
the year. The local caravan park has some on site accommodation but be sure
to phone them to check. The local pub is about 15 minutes drive away in
Fish Ck. Closest windsurfing shops to my knowledge are in Melbourne.
