St. Kilda Beach
A very popular spot for windsurfing in Melbourne due to its close proximity
to the city centre. One of the only beaches in this area where windsurfers
are officially permitted. This site is sailable in anything from a NW through
to a SE with only E or NE winds blowing directly offshore. In a strong
SW wind the chop can reach quite large proportions with waves breaking
heavily on the shore. Can become a bit messy and confused in a direct onshore
wind however. Watch out for high pollution in the day or two after heavy
rains (dont swallow!!) and be careful not to step on the syringes left
on the beach. ( I know it sounds awful but it really can be a good spot
to sail at times!)
Closest shops are Repeat Performance Sailboards
and
Sailboard Headquarters
